Rhiannon Crispe, OT: OT in Entrepreneurship

In this post, we will be learning about an occupational therapy practitioner in entrepreneurship. You will hear from the personal and professional experiences of Rhiannon Crispe, OT. Rhiannon has been an occupational therapist for 13 years in Australia. She has her own mobile paediatric practice and is an online course creator providing professional development for inspired OTs. Rhiannon is fiercely passionate about the potential of occupational therapy and raising the profile of the profession. Rhiannon is the founder of The OT Lifestyle Movement and host of The OT Lifestyle Movement podcast where she empowers OTs to do work that matters, to work from a holistic lens, and to support OT entrepreneurs who have a vision of creating impact beyond 1:1 therapy and creating an online business.

Q & A with Rhiannon:

Please tell us a little about yourself and a few favorite occupations.

Lifestyle matters. Running. Ocean. Working on passion projects. Reading. Connecting with other ambitious OTs.

What motivated you to contribute to this podcast series?

Contribute to the OT profession

Please describe the UncommonOT work that you do and the setting in which you work, whom you serve, and the needs that you address.

I founded The OT Lifestyle Movement to help OTs and OTAs to do work that matters - to them. We take a holistic focus on well-being and the scope of our OT work. Population: OTs/OTAs Needs: I work with those who want to follow their passion and purpose to live intentionally and do work that matters. Those who want to create their own abundance.

What inspired you or drew you to this type of OT work?

Listening to the whispers of my soul! (but seriously! haha)

How did you get there? Can you describe your path?

Constant evolution. Constant learning and growth. Failing. Working it out as I go.

Please describe a typical day or OT session in your uncommon setting? What OT skills do you utilize?

Work from home. Content creation. Coaching OTs online. Personal and professional development.

Can you talk about some recent highs (successes) and lows (challenges) of your current role?

Highs: watching as OT/OTA clients overcome self-limiting beliefs, take steps towards their goals, and experience transformation lows: challenges questioning my path and what direction I wanted to go. Staying true to my values and aligning with my true north.

How do you continue to learn in order to stay on top of things within your role?

Follow the thread of my curiosity.

Can you share a little bit about salary and compensation in this setting? How do OT or the services you provide get funded?

I generate my own income via online courses and programs. I also have multiple streams of income - have my own private practice peds business.

Any career advice for our followers and listeners on how to get started on this path?

Seek out a mentor who has walked the path before you to collapse time around your goals.

What’s a common myth or misconception about your job/role you’d like to call out or demystify?

Many OTs think they don't have what it takes and are unsure what makes them different to anyone else out there sharing a message and creating an online business. I want them to know that they are unique and that anyone can create an online business, you just need the know-how.

How do we find you, follow you, be in touch with you, and promote your unique work?
